Overview
The following provides insight into the various settings that have an impact on whether a student can self-schedule. Since settings reside in different locations and have a hierarchy, at the end of each setting description other settings that have an impact on the self-scheduling are listed in Overriding Settings.
In addition, if an option provides the ability to affect a setting for multiple users (For example: activating and de-activating self-scheduling for multiple students) this too will be indicated.
Student Level Settings
Student can self-schedule
Location: Settings > Student Management > student page > Can Schedule Self Checkbox
When this is un-checked, a student can only request that an appointment be created.
When this is checked, a student can schedule themselves for an appointment slot that is not already scheduled for Homeroom/Advisory or a subject matter course.

Activation and De-Activation of Student Self-Scheduling
Student can self-schedule and overwrite appointments
Location: Settings > Student Management > student page > Can Schedule Self Checkbox & Can Override Appts Checkbox
When both are checked, a student can schedule themselves for an appointment slot that is not already scheduled. In addition, when a teacher is scheduling the student to an appointment (homeroom or advisory), the teacher will have the additional option “Student Can Overwrite”.
This option is only visible and available on the appointment page if the student has been granted that permission.
If the teacher chooses to check the “Student Can Overwrite” checkbox, then the student has the opportunity to override the appointment that is created.

School Level Settings
Activation and De-Activation of Student Self-Scheduling
Location: Admin > Manage Students > Advanced > Manage Can Self-Schedule
No matter what the other settings are, this will activate or de-activate student self-scheduling for the selected students. When activated, all the other settings come into play. You can choose to activate self-scheduling for all students, or select students by grad year. You can also de-activate self-scheduling for all students or select students by grad year. When all students are deactivated from self-scheduling, it is as if the school has turned of self-scheduling in its entirety.

Student Can Overwrite Their Homeroom Appointments
Location: Admin >Configuration>Student Appointment Editor Settings>Student Can Overwrite Their Homeroom Appointments
Even if a student (or students) is set to self-schedule, but NOT override appointments, checking this box will allow the student to overwrite a homeroom / advisory appointment. The student will still be unable to override a subject matter course appointment.
This option was created for schools that pre-book students to their homeroom, but still want the students to retain the option to schedule themselves from these homeroom appointments.

Admin Scheduling Options
In addition to the fact that only administrators can enable and disable student self-scheduling permissions (Settings > Student Management > Students page > Can Schedule Self Checkbox & Can Override Appts Checkbox), the administrator can also “mass schedule” students to appointments.
Mass Scheduling
Location: Admin > Mass Schedule
When mass scheduling, the option is presented to allow the affected students to overwrite the appointment that is created. The effect will vary based on whether a student has been granted the ability to self-schedule of not.
Mass Scheduling (student cannot self-schedule / appoint does not allows overwrite)
The student will be presented with the option to “request” a course change. This is so even if a student has not been granted the permission to self-schedule. (See Self-Scheduling Matrix Lines 8 and 9)
Mass Scheduling (student can self-schedule / appoint allows overwrite)
Since this is taking place at administrator level, the option to overwrite will be granted to the students regardless of their individual ability to “overwrite” an appointment. The student simply needs the ability to self-schedule. (See Self-Scheduling Matrix Lines 3 and 14)
