Document Overview
The ability to view a student's grades can be helpful in determining which appointment will best suit the student's needs. However, due to the sensitive nature of student grades, the ability to view them is removed by default. This information will guide you through the process of granting permission to view grades and describes the role that rosters play in determining the student grades that can be viewed by a teacher.
Who Can View Grades?
The ability to see the grades of any students is determined by the options associated with a staff members profile. These specific options can be viewed and edited by going to Settings > Manage Staff.
There, along with the staff member's email and name are the options to view grades.
Once the View Grades checkbox is activated, the staff member will be able to view grades for all students in the staff member's rosters. As long as a student is in at least one of the teacher's rosters, the teacher will be able to view the student's grades.
Can View or Can View All
If, either due to school policy or job description, a teacher needs to view the grades of all students, that option is available.
The "View All Grades?" checkbox will enable a teacher to view all students, not simply those who are in their rosters.
Rosters Help Define Boundaries
To prevent a teacher from inadvertently viewing grades that they have no need of seeing, a teacher's rosters become the logical boundary for determining which student grades are available to them.
Students who are listed in a teacher's rosters are managed by the teacher for one reason or another, so these student grades will be available to a teacher who has been granted the "View Grades" permission.
A teacher's rosters or student groupings are defined by each teacher only. Not even an Admin can create rosters for another staff member.
The rosters can be viewed and edited by going to Students and checking the "Show my rostered students" checkbox.
That will bring you to the page where you can created, and delete rosters of students to be used in scheduling. Placing a student in a roster is a typical indication that the teacher is working with the student in some capacity and therefore is a reasonable indicator that the teacher should view the student's grades.

Can't the Teacher Just Make a Roster
Yes, a teacher can simply a student to one of their rosters to make that student's grade available. However, the restriction on grades is not a security mechanism. It is simply in place to assist teachers in maintaining their boundaries related to information that they don't need to know.
Should a teacher choose to make a student's grades available, they can do so if the permission to view grades has been granted.
