There can be a lot of confusion regarding what it means to import and export data. Often, there are unspoken assumptions that can cause issues once a school starts working with Enriching Students.
This document clarifies what data can be imported into Enriching Students and what data can be exported from Enriching Students. It details what data sources we support and what happens to the data once we receive it, as well as when we push data to your school.
The first thing to understand is Enriching Students does not pull any data directly from any Student Information System (SIS).
Please note: the overall process for importing via Clever or ClassLink is very similar. Essentially the data needs to be placed into the repository (Clever or ClassLink) and then Enriching Students needs to be given access to the repository. Because of the similarities, we will just use the phrase "Clever" below. However, if your school is using ClassLink, the benefits and processes will be essentially the same.
Using Clever to import data has several benefits:
- Many schools are already working with Clever
- There is no cost to the school to use Clever
- Once the data is set up in Clever, it can be shared with any number of technology partners.
- Clever provides support in getting data from your Student Information System into Clever.
Once your data is set up in Clever, your tech team simply needs to give Enriching Students access to the data (Clever calls this "provisioning the data"). From there, your data in Enriching Students will be updated on a nightly basis via an automated process.
Clever supports the following data:
For more information on working with Clever, please read 10 Steps to set up your Clever/ClassLink Integration with Enriching Students.
Clever does not support the following data:
There might be users that are NOT in Clever, because they are not in your SIS, but you might want them to be in Enriching Students. For example, you might want to include paraprofessionals, counselors or admins to be in Enriching Students, even though they aren't in your SIS.
Enriching Students will allow you to create both staff and students manually. For obvious reasons, none of the data associated with those users will be updated when a sync is done with Clever.
Enriching Students allows for the exporting of appointment data. The site allows you to select the data you need. We can configure the system to push the data, in the form of a comma separated value file (CSV) to an SFTP location that we will provision for your school. Multiple exports per day can be scheduled. We will work closely with your school to format the data to meet the needs of your school.
Please note, Enriching Students does NOT automatically push data into any Student Information System. We create the CSV data and place it on our SFTP server. Your tech team will craft a solution to get the data into your SIS.
Importing Other Data
We support importing both grade data, as well as absent student data. The details can be found here.
The important takeaway is this: in order to provide us with grades or absent student data, your IT department will need to provide the data in a CSV format as described in our help documents. We are willing to work with a school as far as the overall format of the file is concerned. However, the creation of the data files rests entirely with your school. We can offer no insight on how to create these data files.
Proof of Concept
We appreciate your interest in Enriching Students and we're excited about the prospect of working with you. However, we recognize the need to be sure that the process will work for your school before moving forward.
If the automatic sharing of data is important to your school, please set up a meeting with our tech team. We're happy to work with you before you commit to using Enriching Students to ensure that we can meet your needs. We can work with your tech team to set up a proof of concept to ensure that your expectations of sharing data with Enriching Students can be accomplished.
Enriching Students has no experience with any Student Management Systems. In the event you need support importing data to your SMS or exporting data from your SMS, you'll need to reach out to the SMS Technical Support Team for assistance.
We respect the privacy of the schools we work with. We are unable to share a school's information in an effort to assist with this process.
