Single Sign-On is an authentication service that allows you to prove who you are once, and then have access to multiple applications.
Clever Single Sign-On is a feature that allows Clever to authenticate (sign onto Clever) and then other applications that trust Clever will grant you access.
Enriching Students supports this model to an extent, allowing Clever to authenticate a user for access. If the user can prove who they are to Clever, and their Clever email is stored in Enriching Students, then they will gain access to Enriching Students. There is no need to remember credentials others than those associated with Clever.
Why Use Clever SSO (Single Sign-On) Portal?
As security becomes more and more important, the balance between keeping data secure and while still allowing access to the data becomes increasingly difficult. Multiple application, all requiring a user to login with credentials can make the maintenance of usernames and passwords cumbersome.
One solution is to allow a single, trusted entity to store your credentials and verify you when accessing many applications. That is the basic premise behind Single Sign-on, and Clever allows you to use this approach to access Enriching Students.
If you are in a school district that is using Clever to keep data synced with Enriching Students, you can access Enriching Students, without ever entering the Enriching Students login screen.
How it Works
Teachers and Students who are able to login to Clever will find a link to Enriching Students. By clicking on the link, they are automatically signed in to Enriching Students; no need to enter another username and password.
If you haven't yet done so, you will need to access the Clever portal, and you can do so by visiting: Clever.com.
From the drop down box, select your role (e.g. teacher, student or district admin).
Once you have logged in, you will be presented with the applications that you can connect to. Choose Enriching Students
If you are an active Enriching Students users, you will be brought directly to your dashboard page.
You can log out of Enriching Students by clicking on your name in the upper right hand corner and then selecting Logout.
If you need to logout of Clever, you will choose "End Portal Session" in the upper right hand corner of the Clever Portal page.
What is Required
The individual responsible for Clever at your school needs to activate the SSO feature.
Additionally, we validate against the email address that is sent to us from Clever as part of the authentication process. So if you want users in your school to be able to use Clever SSO, the email address that is in Clever will also have to be in Enriching Students.
This is not an issue in most cases, as most users have a valid email address associated with their account.
No Email Address for the User
Although users in Clever typically have an email address, this is not a Clever requirement. However, a user is identified by their unique email address in Enriching Students.
Therefore, if Clever allows a user to login, but the user does not have an email address, they will not gain access to Enriching Students.
A Duplicate Email address
Since Enriching Students uses an email address as the username that identifies a user, this much be unique.
If a "filler" or fake email address is used in Clever, (in most instances this is simply to provide a value when exporting data from the school's SMS) the address will be associated with at most one person, as duplicate entry of the email address will not be allowed when creating or importing a user.
